Day 9: Numbers as Pictures II, Your Number Palace

Now we put Day 8’s code to work. Instead of decoding a number into sounds every single time you see it (too slow), memory athletes pre-build a dictionary: one fixed picture-word for every number 00 through 99, using the phonetic code. See the number once, and the picture fires automatically, no decoding required in the moment.

You don’t have to build all 100 yourself today, the Number Palace trainer that comes with this course already has a complete 00-99 dictionary loaded and ready to drill (look for the “Number Palace” page in the menu). Your job right now is to actually use it: drill number-to-word and word-to-number until a two-digit number flashes a picture in your mind almost instantly.

Once these 100 pictures are solid, you can memorize any number, a phone number, a birthday, pi to fifty digits, by chunking it into pairs and chaining the pictures together exactly like you chained ordinary objects in Day 3.
